Masterclass open to CPM students and external guests organized by Ponderosa Music&art for the Milanese music festival JAZZMI, in collaboration with the CPM Music Institute.

The masterclass is part of the calendar of the 9th edition of JAZZMI, a Milanese music festival which from 17 October to 13 November brings not only Jazz music to theatres, clubs and alternative spaces, but also films, exhibitions and meetings with artists . Dave Weckl himself will be the protagonist on November 6th with the project The Dave Weckl/Tom Kennedy Project at the Teatro Triennale Milano. Participants will have the opportunity to ask for insights into musical, stylistic and improvisational aspects and to interact with one of the most influential and technically gifted jazz/fusion drummers of all time.

Dave Weckl, born in 1960, is a world-renowned American drummer, teacher, session musician and producer, considered one of the most influential jazz/fusion drummers. His numerous collaborations with artists of the caliber of George Benson, Chick Corea, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Michel Camilo, Madonna, Mike Stern, Frank Gambale, John Patitucci, Jeff Berlin, Michael Brecker, Diana Ross, Robert Plant, Lee Ritenour, Alan Pasqua, Marco Mendoza, Brandon Fields Group, Oz Noy. He is the leader of his own group, the Dave Weckl Band Project.

PhD in Languages ​​of improvisation in contemporary music a.y. 2024/25

CPM Music Institute is pleased to announce a new and prestigious collaboration in the Afam training field together with Siena Jazz and other important affiliated institutes. CPM is in fact a partner of the Doctorate approved by Anvur and is part of the Doctoral Board through the Professor Gabriele Comeglio.

The associated research doctorate includes the following affiliated institutions:
- Siena Jazz – National Jazz Academy (leader);
- CPM Music Institute of Milan;
- State Conservatory of Music “G. Frescobaldi” of Ferrara

Course description
The PhD Course in Languages ​​of Improvisation in Contemporary Music is a three-year study and research course aimed at performers coming from different fields and traditions (jazz, contemporary classical music, rock, pop, folk music), with particular attention to candidates whose artistic practice is inclined to a transversality of languages ​​and approaches.

The objective of the course is high-level artistic research of international relevance, as well as the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are in line with the national objectives of a third cycle course from the point of view of impact and methodological rigour. . The aforementioned artistic research, fueled by the activities foreseen by the course and concluded by a concert/performance, is accompanied by the request for an explicit reflection which, by exploiting the methodology acquired during the course and culminating in a final thesis, is able to make available to the community of reference scholars and practitioners the work practices and vision developed over the three-year course.

SongWriting: musical writing lab

Entrusted to 10 important and well-known figures in the music sector, the SongWriting course allows those who already write songs, even just for pleasure, to receive creative stimuli, new motivations and knowledge, in a laboratory spirit connected to school, where fundamental is interaction with musicians and arrangers.

CPM Music Institute has designed a new SongWriting course: musical writing workshop, a course whose backbone is to write as much as possible, cultivate the instinctive element of creativity, encourage intuition, the quality and effectiveness of language musical and textual in many different forms.

Three-year Academic Course in Pop Rock Composition

The peculiarity of the Three-year Academic Course in Pop Rock Composition of our music school, compared to the same course provided by other teaching structures, is that it is characterized by a total number of hours between 580 and 596 hours, with lessons on site and in the studios. associated recording studios such as Alari Park Studios and Core-T-Zone, as well as practice in live contexts.

The Pop Rock Composition course is based on 3 pillars - composing, arranging, producing - which constitute the foundations of an academic path dedicated to those who aspire and aspire to be the reference figure alongside the great artists of the national and international scene, as well as than to personally take care of their own productions.

The course will be led by Diego Maggi and Lorenzo Cazzaniga, as Department Managers. With them: Fabio Nuzzolese, Mell Morcone, Alex Trecarichi, Giovanni Boscariol and Gabriele Comeglio.
