PEPPE: A SPECIAL FRIEND TO ALL ITALIANS

In the wardrobe of our most intimate feelings, there’s room for those rare individuals we feel close to, regardless of whether we’ve ever truly known them. Among them are artists and musicians—people who have written famous songs, books, or films that have become part of us. Yet, it’s uncommon to feel for such people, however special, a deep sense of friendship — that kind of connection that belongs to the sphere of genuine, heartfelt affection.

I met Peppe, and it only took a single glance to sense his kindness — a profound empathy was immediately there. Sometimes, purity of heart, depth of soul, and sincerity manifest physically in certain people, allowing us to see their Heart, regardless of what they say or do. I believe that’s why, at the news of his passing, such a wave of affection arose — one that goes far beyond fame or media exposure.

Peppe was a quiet friend to all Italians who love Popular Music in all its genres and styles — and beyond. Speaking of sincerity: how can one truly tell if someone loves their craft with all their being? In Peppe’s case, that love was for Music.

Not everyone knows this, but Peppe used to say — and I fully agree with him — that good Music, the kind born from the genius of true artists, helps plants grow. He believed that its vibrant origin comes from Nature itself and, consequently, that “Music is Life.” And when he said it to me, I could tell it wasn’t just a figure of speech — it was the deep vision that guided his Life.
